Alice Meginnes

Alice Y. Meginnes, age 86, of Arizona passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Alice was born on March 18, 1938, in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, to Mattias and Antionette Tescher. Alice attended Dickenson State Teachers College before moving to Chicago, Illinois, and working at a millinery shop where she cultivated a lifelong love of beautiful hats and accessories. She later worked as a head cook for Park Avenue Elementary School in Des Moines, Iowa. However, she spent most of her professional career working as a technical editor for Principal Financial Group in Des Moines.

In her personal time, Alice enjoyed cooking, baking, crafting, entertaining, and traveling the world. Her favorite trips included visiting Panama and Europe with her loving husband John and visiting her sons, Matt and Mark, during their various military assignments in the U.S. Air Force.

Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and always a dedicated member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years John F. L. Meginnes in 2017 as well as her parents and all 14 of her siblings, marking the end of an era. Alice is survived by her sons Matthew Meginnes (Karen) and Mark Meginnes (Deb Anderson), and her grandchildren Crystal Coughlin (Sean), Tiffany Fritz (Kyle), Kathryn Benning (Zach), Sarah Meginnes and John Meginnes, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass with be held at 10 a.m. July 10, 2025, at St. Anne’s Church in Bismarck, ND, with a luncheon to follow at the church. The burial will be at 1 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Alice’s memory to Home On the Range, 16351 I-94, Sentinel Butte, ND 58654.
