Anna Rubia, 75, of Bismarck, passed away November 24, 2025, at Miller Pointe, Mandan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, Bismarck, ND. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck, ND.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service with the Rosary beginning at 1:30 PM.
Anna Carole Rubia [Miri wita (morning dew)] was promoted to Glory in the early morning of Monday November 24, 2025 at the age of 75.
Anna was born on December 13, 1949 to Antonio and Agnes (LoneFight) Rubia She was a member of the Low Cap Clan through her mother's Mandan, Hidatsa side. She was raised the majority of her life with her mother’s maternal family; but equally proud of her father’s filipino/ spanish heritage. She was given the name Miri Wita (Morning Dew) by Arthur Mandan and Maa`cu DaBaa (Juneberries) from Cora Baker.
Anna received her education in Bismarck, N.D., attending the Catholic schools of St. Mary Elementary, St. Mary’s High school and graduated from the University of Mary. She went on to further her education at Penn State attaining her M.Ed in Educational Administration.
Her work experience centered in teaching at the elementary level in ND and Umatilla WA; School Administration as Principal and Superintendent on reservation schools in N.D and Montana., and upon retirement, teacher education at the Ft. Berthold Community College in New Town, ND. She always felt the responsibility of providing a strong, rich and positive experience for the native youth, “her children” who were all those who came under her care.
In her earlier years she enjoyed creating art and appreciating visual beauty photography, writing, sewing and singing. She loved traveling and seeing as much of the world as she could. Friendship was a value that sustained her throughout her life, from childhood friends to new-found friendships. She was a member of the Enemy women Society, the Ladies Auxiliary: Little Shell/300 and the Eagle Sundance. She was a loving sister, aunt, relative and good friend to many.
She held a strong belief in the spiritual life embracing both native teachings and practices as well as her ties to the catholic church. She especially loved the rosary as was handed down by her aunts and grandmother practice daily, particularly her grandmother Mary Young bird/ Lone Fight, Grandmother Cora Baker. She would use the Rosary throughout the day for many family and friends.
Our beloved sister, niece, Auntie, and grandmother loved planning little get-togethers for friends and family and took great joy in bringing people together. Many cherished memories were made through the gatherings and celebrations she lovingly organized.
She is survived by her brother Fred “Brownie” Rubia, Darcy Medicine Stone (Clarice) Michael “Mikey” Barthelemy, Ted Lonefight III. Sisters AnnaRose Barthelemy,.... Auntie(Mama): Mary Barthelemy(Michael Sr.) Nieces: Vivian Hurkes, Mary Ellen Sun(Clarence) Nephews: Dennis Howling Wolf(Jessica). Dahu (Thunderbird) Naawi. Grandkids: Dallas Reynolds(Mei) Breyana Brave bull, Terran Medicine Stone, Roderick Grant, Sierra Rain Sun, Persephone Eastman, Ernest, Jerrod Jr, Donny, Cedar, Frederick Grant,. Justice, Benny Eugene, Ophelia, Omeara, Olivia Howling Wolf, Azden Crows Breast, Deltin Arrow and Aiden Hurkes. Great grandkids: Dennyboy Benson, Leo Grant, Sebastian “SIR” and Dian Reynolds, Calvin Sun.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Antonio Rubia.
