It is with the heaviest hearts that we share the passing of Anthony Allan Schmalz, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 70, surrounded by the love of his immediate family.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
There are no words that could ever truly capture the kind of man Anthony was or the pain of losing him. He was the heart of our family, our strength, our comfort, and our safe place. He was the one who always seemed to know exactly what to say, the one who could calm any storm, and the one who carried so much love in his heart for the people around him.
Anthony had a beautiful soul and a presence that could light up any room. He could talk to anyone, make anyone laugh, and make people feel at home just by being himself. He had a way of making life feel a little lighter, even during the hardest moments.
He loved classic cars, his motorcycle, rock and roll, and the outdoors. He found joy in hunting, camping, fishing, boating, and working on remodeling projects. He loved his dog, and he loved the simple moments in life that meant the most.
But above all else, Anthony loved his family with everything he had. His wife, Patty, and his children, Samantha and John, were the center of his world. He loved deeply, quietly, and fiercely — the kind of love you carry with you forever.
For the past decade, Anthony was bedridden, but even through the pain, the struggles, and everything his body endured, he never let that take away who he was. He remained strong. He remained loving. He remained positive. Even in suffering, he still showed us what courage, resilience, and grace look like.
Watching someone you love fight so hard for so long is a pain that changes you forever. And yet through it all, Anthony continued to be the rock of our family. He gave us strength even when he was hurting. He gave us peace even when he was fighting his own battles. That is who he was — selfless, steady, loving, and deeply devoted to the people he loved.
Anthony was truly one of a kind. The space he leaves behind is impossible to put into words. Our hearts are broken, and life will never be the same without him in it.
We will miss his voice, his presence, his wisdom, his laughter, and the comfort of simply having him here. We will miss the way he loved us, protected us, and held us together.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Patty; children, Samantha, John, Tiffany, Angel; Siblings, and Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew.
“The story of life is quicker than the wink of an eye.
The story of love is hello and goodbye, until we meet again.”
If love alone could have kept you here, you would have stayed forever.
Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we try to navigate this unimaginable loss. ❤️
