Brett O’Connell, age 52, of Dickinson, North Dakota, passed away on November 13, 2024.
Brett will be deeply missed by his ex-wife and best friend, Norine Lucietto; his devoted mother, Barbara O’Connell; and his sisters, Bridget Echols (Steve Echols) and Brooke Galassi (Paul Galassi). He was a proud and loving uncle to his five nieces and nephews—Conor (his Godson), Leah, Lucy, Leo, and Lily—whom he adored with all his heart. He will also be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Brett was a private person, but those who knew him best were fortunate to experience his wit and big heart. His passions spoke volumes about who he was. Summers spent traveling from concert to concert with Norine were among his favorite memories, and his vast CD collection reflected his love for music, which he believed could express emotions and stories better than words ever could.
Sports were another of Brett’s great loves, with baseball holding a special place in his heart. A lifelong fan of Notre Dame, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears, Brett’s enthusiasm for his teams was unmatched. An exceptional athlete himself, Brett was quick to remind everyone of his prowess—and more often than not, he backed it up!
Brett also had a deep affection for animals, especially dogs and cats, reflecting his big heart and kind spirit.
He is preceded in death by many cherished family members and friends, most notably his father, Terry O’Connell, who passed away when Brett was just 20, and his beloved grandmother, Alberta Schleif, who had an extraordinary impact on his life.
In keeping with Brett’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead, his family invites everyone who knew and loved him to honor his memory by doing something fun in his honor—whether it’s attending a concert, cheering for your favorite team, or watching your favorite movie.
Brett’s memory will live on in the notes of his favorite songs, and the enduring love of those who knew him best.
