Carol Bower

January 16, 1927 — March 2, 2025

Carol Boyd Bower was born on January 16, 1927 and was called to her eternal home on March 2, 2025, in Bismarck, ND, at the age of 98. She passed away at the Missouri Slope Care Center. Carol has been cremated and will be laid to rest at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home.

She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. A woman of remarkable independence, Carol was active and rarely sought assistance.

Her educational journey began at Boyd School, and she was an active member of Glencoe Sloan Presbyterian Church. Carol graduated from Bismarck High School.

In 1946, Carol Boyd married John Bower in Mandan. They lived and farmed in the Menoken area and together raised two children, James and Joanne. They resided in the Menoken area until moving to a condo in Bismarck. After John’s passing, Carol continued to live in her home until entering the care center in mid-January.

Throughout her life, Carol taught school and was a dedicated homemaker. She also worked at the Menoken Post Office. Together with John, she enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, visiting various places and relatives. Carol loved taking walks around the block, dining out with family, collecting rocks, and crafting figurines from them. Shopping at Herberger’s and socializing with her neighbors in the condo brought her joy as well.

Carol is survived by her son, Jim (Dorothy) Bower; her sister, Sibyl (Gordon) Olson; grandchildren, Will (Shyla) Bower, Becky (Paige) Holler, Wes (Julie) Bower, Jonathan Casey, Sue Hetletved, Tim Bower, and Krissy Bower; many greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her daughter, Joanne; her siblings, including three sisters and three brothers; and her granddaughter, Raquel.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her neighbor and friend, Julie, for always checking in on her, as well as to her niece, Pam, and granddaughter, Shyla, for their support during times of need.
