Caroline Markwart, 89, Bismarck, formerly of rural Bowdon passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025 at St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wayside Cemetery, Bowdon, ND.
Caroline was born July 27, 1936 to Anton “Tony” and Otilda (Filler) Braunagel in Chaseley, ND where she was raised and educated. Caroline trucked with her father for a few years after she completed school.
On June 24, 1956 she married Wesley Markwart in Chaseley. They started farming with Wesley’s father after selling the John Deere dealership and started the family farm in Bowdon. They farmed until retirement and remained on the farm until moving to Bismarck in 2011
Caroline enjoyed camping and being members of Good Sam’s camping club. She along with friends entertained as clowns, she went by “Popcorn” at nursing homes, local parades and at the Minot State Fair. She served on the Bowdon ambulance as an EMT for several years and they called themselves “Scoop and Run”. For many years Caroline and Wesley spent their winters in Texas.
Caroline is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary (Elaine) Markwart, Bismarck, Glenn (Michelle) Marquette, Argyle, WI; three grandchildren, Andrea Zimmerer, Malachi and Samantha Marquette; three great grandchildren, Kamden, Brecklynn and Parker Zimmerer; one brother, Alvin Braunagel; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley; son, Greig; her parents, brother, Lawrence Braunagel, sister Elizabeth Emerson, and brother Joseph Braunagel.
