Dal was born September 10, 1943 in Hazen ND to Milton and Elsie (Benz) Buchmann. He was the 2nd oldest of 6 children. After moving several times the family settled on a farm in Baldwin. Dal graduated from Bismarck High School and then attended Bismarck Junior College. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army in 1968.

In April 1966 Dal met the love of his life, Linda Braun. They married in April 1968 and then were sent to Fort Polk, Louisiana where Dal was stationed and then transferred to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. In May of 1970 they moved to Fargo, ND where they resided for 11 years. In June of 1981 they moved back to Dal’s family farm in Baldwin.

Dal was an extremely hard worker. He started in the carpet industry while living in Fargo. Beginning in the carpet warehouse and proceeding into sales, then installing with his Rug Rat family. He was an avid softball player, playing with the Baldwin Bandits for many years. Dal loved raising sheep and especially loved putting up hay for his sheep. He was a fantastic pinochle player who hated to give up the bid, even if it meant he was going set. There were hundreds of men vs women games with his in-laws and many, many world championship games with his kids and grandkids. He loved spending time with his grandkids especially during “grandma week” where he was the primary teacher at “grandpa school” asking the kids questions like “what kind of names does your dad call your mom?” He was always the jokester.

Dal served on the board of The Bismarck Rural Fire Department for 42 years. He also served on the board for Naughton Township and was on the Weed Board for Naughton Township. Dal was a lifetime member of the Bismarck Eagles and danced many polkas and waltz’s there.

Dal leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda; children, Micky (Linda) Buchmann, Shelley (Jason) Wilson, Marcy (Brett) Kading, Carey (Chris) Enderle; grandchildren, James and Maggie Buchmann, Zach, Allie, Corbin Wilson, Alex, Ben, Isaac Kading, Elsa, Edith, Eleanor Enderle; great grandson, Mason Wilson; brother Iver (Sandy) Buchmann; sister and brothers- in-law; Audrey (Daryl) Braun-Duin, Alvin (Juanita) Braun, Joanne (Scott) Wangler; multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and his best fur friends Riley and Daisy.
