Darhl Gene (Spike) Keigley, 67, Fort Rice, ND passed away Saturday March 14, 2026 surrounded by family after a brief battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. A celebration of Life (pot luck) will be held Thursday March 26th at The Watering Hole, Fort Rice starting at 3 pm. Spike asked that we keep it simple so please join us for a casual gathering where cammo gear is welcome as we share memories and celebrate Spike.
Spike was born March 4, 1959 to Gene and Darla Keigley. Spike, the oldest of 3 children, was raised and attended school in Mandan graduating from MHS with the Class of 1977. Throughout high school he participated in band, football and wrestling. His 1977 MHS wrestling team was later inducted into the North Dakota wrestling Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends.
After high school Spike attended NDSSS in Wahpeton studying heating and cooling HVAC/R. Upon graduating Spike began his 44 year long career with MDU.
In 1979 Spike married Dawn Feil with whom he had 2 sons, Cameron and Devin. In 1991 he married Dana Woodworth and had 2 more children, Allison and Alexander.
Spike had many interests over the years including both watching and participating in sports. In his younger days he enjoyed competitive running including running marathons. He was invited and tried out for the Atlanta Falcons football team, and he also raced and worked on race cars with his son Devin who also got the racing bug and Spike enjoyed watching Devin race.
Spike's real passion was hunting and anything to do with hunting, especially deer hunting both with bow and rifle. He loved going hunting and just being in the woods with his constant hunting companions, his son Cam and his brother Kyle. They have endless stories to tell about their many adventures in the river bottoms. Spike was definitely in his happy place being outdoors and finding peace in the beauty of nature, he also has passed this love of the outdoors onto his granddaughter Cora through the fishing trips, hikes and outdoor adventures he went on with her and her dad Cam. As Spike and one of his coworkers were working late and they were watching a beautiful sunset Spike said "It kinda makes you want to sing Kumbaya” Spike appreciated all those Kumbaya moments. Spike was known for his wit and sense of humor. He was kind, he enjoyed making people smile, and making life fun.
Spike will be deeply missed by his sons, Cameron, Devin and Alex Keigley; daughter, Allison Keigley; granddaughter, Cora Keigley; mother, Darla Keigley; sister Tracy Keigley-Gardner (Ralph); brother, Kyle Keigley (Joy) and his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Spike was preceded in death by his father, Gene Keigley; grandparents and recently by his little dog, BooBoo.
