Darrell was born in Bismarck, ND on October 26, 1945 and was raised in New Salem, ND. He built a life centered on family, service, and the simple things that brought happiness to those around him. He shared 61 years of marriage with the love of his life, Darlene (Kempert) Neas. Together they created a lifetime of memories together. Building a family that was his greatest source of pride.
Darrell devoted 33 years of service to the Bismarck Police Department, rising through the ranks and retiring as a Captain. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of his fellow officers and the community through his leadership, integrity, and commitment to public service.
Outside of his career, Darrell had many interests and talents. He had a passion for riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle; and for many years, he and Darlene enjoyed traveling and vacationing on two wheels. Darrell found joy in gardening, listening to all genres of music, researching family history through genealogy, and spending time with those he loved (including his grand dog, Hunter). Known for his skill in the kitchen, Darrell especially enjoyed making homemade bread and passing down recipes and traditions that will be fondly remembered by family and friends.
Above all, Darrell cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene (Kempert) Neas; his children, Allen (Sherry) Neas, Jodi (Les) Hoesel, and James (Lynette Renner) Neas; his beloved grandchildren, Alexis Neas and Braxton Neas; his sister, Laurel Faber; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Darrell was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Howard and Dorothy Neas; his brother-in-law Gene Kempert; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Monica and Edward Kempert; and various other loved ones.
Darrell's legacy of love, service, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
