Dorothy Thompson

Dorothy Thompson, 75, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Missouri Slope Lutheran care center, Bismarck.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born February 24, 1950, to Vitalis and Margaret (Volk) Dirk. She was raised and educated in Bismarck, ND. She was married for 16 years and had 5 children from that marriage. 4 boys and 1 girl. Dorothy worked multiple jobs until her M.S. got bad enough to go on disability in 1996.

Dorothy enjoyed watching Star Trek TV shows and movies. She loved to crochet, read, put puzzles together and gamble.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her daughter, Dawn (Jeremy) Jacobson, Lincoln; three sons, Jim (Kris) Thompson, Mandan, Jason Thompson, Bismarck, Mike (Tanya Johnson) Thompson, Mandan; sister, Marie Schneider, Green Bay, WI; seven grandsons, James Jr., Tyler, Mason, Brandon, Alex, Trey, and Marcus; three granddaughters, Megan, Britney, and Justice; three great-grandsons, Noah, Sebastian and Link.

She was preceded in death by her parents Vitalis and Margaret Dirk; son, Steve Thompson; five brothers Mike, Gary, Dave, Ed and Tim; one brother-in-law, George Schneider.
