Douglas John Gueldner, 66, passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2025 in Bismarck, North Dakota, after a strong but brief battle with bladder cancer. His beloved wife of 44 years, Susie, was by his side and holding his hand.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Bismarck Funeral Home.
Doug was born July 11th, 1959 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada, beloved son of the late Robert and Betty Gueldner. He was predeceased in death by both parents and beloved brother-in-law Stephen Christensen. Doug is survived and dearly missed by his siblings Donna Christensen, Ken (Chelle) Gueldner, and Brenda (Lee) Peters; as well as Sue’s siblings, Barb (Jeff) Jennings and Timmy (Brenda) Huber. Our combined families also include 7 nieces and nephews, 9 great-nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
When his parents immigrated to the United States the summer of 1977, Doug chose to move to Williston, North Dakota to become a manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken. He met his future wife, Sue, who happened to be on staff at KFC working part time during high school. After just 2 dates, Doug and Susie were inseparable and later married on May 16th, 1981.
Doug was devoted to his family and friends and was always there to lend a comforting word and help with anything that was needed. He loved telling jokes, enjoyed making up his own jokes and puns, and having conversations about things he was ardent about. His love also extended to our neighbors and he was eager to help with home repairs or computer and phone issues. Doug’s passions included learning to fly single engine aircraft, skydiving, American war history (especially WW2), scuba diving and travel. As a teenager, he was an accomplished drummer and performed with his High School Jazz Band as well as bands formed with his friends, one being called Holy Moses.
He joined the family business in San Diego, called Keep Safe of California (founded by his father Bob and Uncle Henry), and worked side by side with his cousin Rick (son-in-law to Henry) for 20+ years until retiring in 2018.
Doug will be deeply missed by his wife, family, and friends. May we all find peace and comfort in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
