Douglas Renken

March 16, 1964 — March 5, 2026

Douglas Renken, 61, Flasher, ND, passed away on March 5th, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with Huntington’s Disease.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 14th, 2026, at the Branded Bar & Grill in Flasher, ND from 1 to 4 pm.

Doug was born March 16th, 1964, to Leo and Ruth Renken, growing up in the small town of Flasher, ND, where he continued to spend the rest of his life. Doug graduated from Flasher High School. Throughout high school, he participated in basketball, football and track and field. He was always an active young man.

Doug began his career at the Farmer’s Union Oil Company, promoting to a manager in later years. In 1996, Doug transitioned to working as a caregiver at Prairie Learning Center until retirement. Doug loved working with juveniles at Prairie Learning Center, and he held many fond memories of the differences he made in the lives of the children he worked with. Doug also spent many years serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Flasher Fire Department.

Above all, Doug was a proud father to his daughter, Allison, who meant the world to him. The time they shared together, and the memories they created will be cherished forever. Doug loved taking Allison fishing throughout her life. When Doug was first diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, Allison and Doug began sharing their love for hunting together. They will forever treasure their memory of Allison’s first buck.

Doug also shared his daughter with his former wife, Viki Lee. They remained close friends and continued to support one another as parents to Allison. Their shared love for their daughter always kept them connected.

One of the most important relationships in Doug’s life was the one he shared with his twin brother, Don Renken. The two had an extremely close bond and spent 61 years side by side. Their brotherhood and friendship were a constant source of strength and companionship throughout Doug’s life.

Doug was a man who felt most at home outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing and driving the backroads looking for deer, birds, and other wildlife. Those quiet drives and early mornings outdoors were some of the things he enjoyed most in life, especially with his brother, Don. Doug also enjoyed watching NASCAR, as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Doug will be deeply missed by his daughter, Allison (Chad) Engen; his former wife and friend, Viki Lee; brother, Don Renken, and sisters; Dorie (Duanne) Leingang and Sharon Hopkins; and the many family members and special friends who were fortunate to know him.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brother’s Darrell, Randy, and Gordon Renken; brother-in-law, George Hopkins, his nephews Jesse Leingang and Billy Joe Hopkins; niece, Jessica Leingang.
