Elaine Ann (Newby) Gordon, 88, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 6, 2021. Due to Covid 19, a small private family service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, February 12, 2021. For those not attending the service, you can view the livestream on the Bismarck Funeral Home Facebook page. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Elaine was born to Roscoe E. and Della Mae (Gray) Newby on March 12, 1932. She grew up on the family farm north of Regent. She displayed a love of cats at an early age. She went to country school through the 6th grade and graduated from Regent Public School in 1950.
Elaine was united in marriage to Doyle Gordon on August 26, 1951 at the English Lutheran Church in Regent. She was a loving mother to 3 children, Ross, Rocky and Rhonda. Elaine worked at the Regent Co-op Store, and Regent Public School. Later, along with Doyle, they owned and managed several cafes in Regent. They were lifelong members of the Faith Lutheran Church. She and Doyle enjoyed their lives in Regent and had many good friends. She was an accomplished cook and baker and was a 1988 Pillsbury National Country Cookoff National Finalist with her recipe for Dutch Almond Bread. In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed playing cards, embroidery, knitting, and always seemed to have a jigsaw puzzle going on the card table.
She lived with her daughter, Rhonda for the past 9 years, Rhonda was a wonderful care giver to Elaine until she recently entered the Good Samaritan nursing home in Bottineau prior to her passing.
Elaine is survived by her sons, Ross (Lynn), Rocky (Kandyce), both of Bismarck, and daughter, Rhonda, Dunseith; grandsons, Michael, Daniel (Erin), Derek (Jackie); granddaughter, Beth Heim (Dustin), and one great-grandson, Henry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle, parents, Roscoe and Della Mae Newby and sister, Gladys Provolt.
