Gerald "Jerry" Birdsell

Gerald “Jerry” Birdsell, 77, of Linton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 19, 2026

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Bismarck Funeral Home. Family will be receiving guests one hour prior to the service.

Born on March 3, 1949, to Jack and Dena Birdsell, Jerry grew up in the Temvik area and graduated from Linton High School in 1967. He served in the Army in 1969 before receiving an honorable discharge later that year. In 1970, Jerry married Ramona Flanagan, and together they raised two children, Jeremy and Rhonda. Jerry dedicated 29 years of his career to the City of Bismarck.

A true outdoorsman, Jerry found peace working on his hobby farm and hunting with his family. He was a gifted conversationalist who could strike up a chat with anyone, often fueled by his quick wit and love for a good joke. Above all, Jerry’s greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by Ramona, his wife of 55 years; son, Jeremy, daughter, Rhonda (Kurt) Christianson; grandchildren, Shayla (Jordan) Kauffman, Layton (Katrina) Birdsell, Abbie Christianson (Chantel Johnson), and Hunter Christianson; great-grandchildren, Lane and Ada Kauffman, and Harlee Birdsell. He is also survived by his sister, Luella Glass; sisters-in-law, Gerri Birdsell and Wanda LaMontagne; brothers-in-law, David Flanagan, John (Fay) Flanagan, Danny Flanagan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, many siblings and their spouses, nephews, and one niece.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff on 3rd and 4th floor at Sanford Hospital, Bismarck.

Burial will take place at a later date.
