Helen was born on December 25, 1944 to John and Helen (Kitzan) Opp in Glen Ullin, ND.
Helen was united in marriage to Delmer Bickel on June 8, 1963 in Glen Ullin, ND. They made their home on the family farm in the Blue Grass area north of New Salem until 1980. They then moved to Glen Ullin to manage the M&M Motel. In 1987 they moved to Bismarck where over the years she worked for Sofro Fabrics, Donuts & More, Karmel Korn, Lincoln Nursery, Walkers & Daughters, Miracle Mart, and lastly, at Dan’s Super Valu. She was a member and volunteer with the Ladies Eagles Auxiliary #2237 and the Bismarck Kiwanis.
Helen, loved to do quilting, play cards, puzzles, and well known for her candy making talent. Her chocolates were requested by her grandkids, nieces, and nephews for their graduations and weddings. These treats were such a labor of love for those who meant so much to her.
Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Family time was so important to her. Every Sunday was special to her as she would make dinner, play cards and share her love of old time music with her family.
She looked forward to her annual “girls trip” to Minneapolis for the shopping “Olympics” with her daughters to see who would win the gold, silver, and bronze that year. Many fond memories were made.
Family will miss hearing her say “so I was thinking…”, and you knew it was going to be something mischievous!
If ever you were at the house, you would be surrounded by her vast collection of chickens which she loved.
