James Gaab, 75, of Bismarck, passed away on March 5, 2021 in a Bismarck Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Church of Saint Anne Catholic Church. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery on Friday at 10 AM. A Livestream of the Service will be available on the Bismarck Funeral Home Facebook page.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a Rosary/Vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jim was born on May 7, 1945 to Michael and Regina (Zentner) Gaab in Richardton, ND.
Jim was a skilled craftsman. He was a marksman acquired from his service in the army. Jim loved hunting and fishing and was very athletic and competitive in bowling, pool, and horseshoes. Jim was a quiet man but demonstrated his knowledge and skills through attention to detail. He guided his two children through his own right living as a devoted husband and father. Jim worked throughout his life as a semi-truck driver in the oilfield and dairy industries, driving millions of miles without an accident. He worked in the safety industry in the oil field as well. He was a skilled carpenter and finished his working years in making church furniture. After retirement he enjoyed bowling, pinochle and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Anita, of Bismarck; one son, Bradley (Ashley) Gaab, of Gladstone, ND; one daughter, Amanda Gaab, of Dickinson; two granddaughters, Kyra Petersen and Cambree Gaab; five step grandchildren, Zell Harvey, Makiah and Elliot Hartleib, Easton and Berkleigh Thompson; two sisters, Kathleen (Herbert) Billman, of Dickinson, and Linda (Dick) Olstad, of Sentinel Butte, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; and sister-in-law.
