Jamie Almer, lovingly known as “BENO” since childhood, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with his Uncle Barry by his side — someone who had been a special part of his life since childhood. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at Legacy Methodist Church in Bismarck on Friday, May 22 at 11:00 AM. Family will be receiving guests one hour prior to the service.
Jamie was born on April 11, 1975, in blizzard conditions to Dale and Linda Almer in Bismarck, North Dakota, becoming quite the bother to his sister from the very beginning. He graduated from South Central High School in 1993.
Jamie worked at Bobcat Company for over 14 years, where he received several safety and integrity awards. Coworkers often noted that he would pick up the slack without complaint and would always tell you exactly what was on his mind. He took great pride in his work and in the people around him.
Jamie was known for his sense of humor, joking nature, and sometimes grumpy attitude, but beneath it all he had a true heart of gold. He shared a very special bond with his niece and nephew, who meant the world to him, and he loved watching his great-nieces and great-nephew in action — being sassy, mischievous, and full of life. Lane especially thought Jamie’s collection of dragons was pretty cool.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Almer; his sister, Jennie (Damon) Hettich; bonus sisters, Cheryl (Dan) Tucker and Nikki (Rob) Schneider; longtime brother-in-law, Jeremy Birdsell; his niece, Shayla Kauffman (Jordan); his nephew, Layton Birdsell (Katrina); his great-nephew, Lane; and his great-nieces, Harlee and Ada. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who were very special to him as part of such a close-knit family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Almer; his grandparents, Johnie and Regina Bender and Willis and Jennie Almer; his aunts, Roxann Giles and Tootie Bender; and his uncle, Dennis Bender.
Jamie fought a good fight, and now, with God calling him home, we find comfort in knowing he has joined his dad, grandparents, aunts, and uncle as a guardian angel watching over us.
Jamie will be laid to rest at Wurm’s Cemetery.
He will be forever remembered and always loved.
“BENO did life his way—honest, stubborn, funny, and real. He fought a good fight, stood by the people he loved, and never hesitated to speak his mind. A brother, uncle, and friend whose love was shown through action more than words, and whose memory lives on in every laugh, every story, and every dragon he proudly collected.”
