Jeff Hammel

Jeff Hammel, 69, of Bismarck, passed away on June 24, 2026. Burial will be held on Monday, July 6 at 11:00 AM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bismarck Funeral Home.

Jeff was born on August 18, 1956 to Burton and Dolores (Hoeck) Hammel in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jeff was raised in Minnesota and spent 3 years of his childhood in Germany. The few years that he lived there had an impact on the rest of his life. He enjoyed participating in sports in high school and graduated from Milaca High School. Jeff enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 3, 1975 and was honorably discharged on Sept. 2, 1980. The Air Force brought him to North Dakota where he stayed the remainder of his years. After completing his service, he graduated from University of Mary with a business and accounting degree. Jeff worked at the International Revenue Service as an agent for over 25 years and retired early. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Terra (Eric) Scharnowske and Heather Hammel, all of Bismarck; one grandchild, Adler Scharnowske; three brothers, Steven Hammel, Joseph (Jannette) Hammel and Keith (Karen) Hammel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
