Jerome "Jerry" Feist, 78, of Bismarck, passed away peacefully at his home on October 17, 2025, after courageously battling MS for most of his adult life. The family is incredibly grateful to everyone who helped his wife, Judy, care for him over the years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, ND. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Bismarck Funeral Home on Sunday, October 26 from 5:00-7:00 PM with a Rosary and Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Jerry was born on March 26, 1947, in rural Zeeland, ND, to Bernard and Catherine (Hulm) Feist. He graduated from Assumption College in 1967 with an Associate of Arts degree. He went on to double major in Psychology and Sociology at the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1969. In 1974, he was awarded a Master's in Social Work from Saint Louis University.
He married Judy Volk in Linton, ND, on June 26, 1971, and together they raised two children, Jeffrey and Michelle.
Jerry dedicated his professional life to helping others, primarily providing mental health services. As a Director at MedCenter One, he was instrumental in establishing the social work department, which included marital and family therapy. Later in his career, he focused on counseling veterans. Throughout his journey, he was deeply committed to supporting his patients and their families.
Faith was a large part of who he was, and he was a dedicated member of the Church of Corpus Christi. Jerry's competitive spirit was always evident when playing card games or board games with his family. He also enjoyed listening to music and watching action movies or Westerns. He loved socializing, meeting new people, and vacationing.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife of 54 years, Judy; his son, Jeffrey (Jessica) Feist; daughter, Michelle (Steven) Ottmar; grandchildren, Elizabeth Feist, Jonathan Feist, Madalina Ottmar and Maxwell Ottmar; brothers, Joseph Feist, Rodney Feist and Alvin Feist; in addition to other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Josepha and Mary.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Jerry’s memory to the National MS Society or the Bismarck Amvets Post #9.
