John Robert “Jack” Cain, 76, Bismarck, passed away October 8, 2023, at Miller Pointe Nursing Home, Mandan, due to natural causes.  Funeral services will be on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Nelson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

John was born on November 23, 1946, in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Robert and Ruth (McCormick) Cain.  He grew up and attended school in Sioux Falls.  On April 11, 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in the security police, in the Philippines.  John was honorably discharged on December 1, 1976.

Jack, as he was known to his family and friends, had many interests and hobbies.  His love of films and photography began when he was a teenager working at the State Theater in Sioux Falls.  He later became the manager of the Empire Theater in Minot where he met the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” Weishaar at the North Dakota State Fair in 1979.  He returned to Sioux Falls, where he worked at the VA Hospital.

Jack was united in marriage to Cindy in 1984.  He worked at OMF and Radio Shack and as a computer technician at Computerland and other locations including his own business, Micro Alternatives.  He also worked as a portrait photographer at The Photo Express.

Jack enjoyed woodworking and anything DIY including working on cars.  Most of all he cherished visiting with family, friends and everyone he met.

Jack is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cindy; daughter from his first marriage, Sharon Cain, Oxford, AL; brothers:  Jerry Cain, Jim Cain and Jan (Sally) Cain, of Sioux Falls; sister:  Candy (Ed) Martin, San Antonio, TX, as well as other relatives and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jeffrey, sister-in-law, Sandra Weishaar and nephew 1 LT. Thomas Martin.
