Leona Neumiller, 94, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Sept 10, 2026. Funeral services will be on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Leona was born October 18, 1931, to Benjamin and Esther (Rust) Bohnet at Butte, ND. They all moved to California for Benjamin’s health while she was a baby. When she was two years old, her father passed away from tuberculosis. Her mom moved them back to Mercer, ND to be close to family. At the age of 10, Leona gained a new dad, Elmer Peterson, and later a baby sister, Dorothy. She graduated from Mercer High School and attended Minot Teacher’s College, then taught at a rural school north of Mercer.
Leona married Richard Neumiller on October 3, 1951, at the Baptist parsonage in McClusky. They moved to the family farm south of Mercer where they farmed and ranched; milking cows, raising Herefords, and rearing four children, Wes, Marvin, Susan, and Dale. They decided after 44 years of all that to retire and move to Bismarck.
Leona was a pianist for Mercer Baptist Church for many years. She also taught Sunday School and was Church Clerk. As the kids grew, she became a 4-H leader too, always teaching. After retirement, she volunteered at the Baptist Home in Bismarck, visiting residents and pushing wheelchairs.
She was a woman that loved Jesus and family above all else, knowing when to teach, when to give advice, when to stay quiet, when to laugh, when to hug, and when to bake more cookies!
Leona is survived by her loving and grateful family: Wes & Christie Neumiller, Wilton; Marvin & Kathy Neumiller, Washburn; Susan and Doug Miller, Lisbon; and Dale & June Neumiller, Wilton. Her seven grandchildren: Steve Miller of Gwinner; Cory & Nicole, Casey & Heather, Joel & Antenniell, all of Washburn; Ricky & Megan, Jacob & Chantal, Wilton (all Neumillers) and Amanda & Jarred Shaw of Visalia, California. Leona’s 13 great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Daniel, Benjamin, Adlyn, Paul, Jack, Cole, Taylor, Naomi, Brayton, Langston, and Brookston (all still Neumillers at this time) and a great grand-daughter on her way in October. Her one sister, Dorothy & Richard Tretter of Hope, ND; her niece and cherished friend Sheila Just, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard.
