LeRoy G. Bollinger, 91, passed away October 5, 2025, at his home near Bismack, ND. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, the 10th, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Deanna Reikow officiating. Family and friends will gather at 12:45 before the service at the cemetery chapel.
I am Jill, am writing this for my husband as no-one knew LeRoy as I do. I called him "my worker bee." He grew up in Temvik, ND. His parents, Emil and Alvina Bollinger were hard workers, and they passed that trait on to him. As a young man he worked for various farmers doing odd jobs; he worked in the Oldsmobile factory in Michigan for a time; and for the ND State Highway Dept. alongside his father. He also volunteered for service during the Korean War and was called up for service again during Desert Storm. He remained in the Army Reserve and, along with his active duty, served for 23 years.
Then, upon receiving his B.S. degree at NDSU he accepted a position with the Federal Social Security Agency in Kansas City, Mo. After some time, he returned to NDSU and earned a master’s degree in math and economics putting that to use working for the ND Social Services Dept. as Director of Research and Statistics, retiring there after 40 years. He then took a position in maintenance at the Bismack Civic Center.
At the age of 85 he retired from it all and came to work for me, his wife, at home.
He was a good man, humorous, kind, and very energetic. And did mention that in 2003 he ran across the state of ND, west to east, and from the southern border to the Canadian border? Then again, the next year he did the same routes on his old, non-speed bicycle. He ran most every day, usually up to 8 miles, until he just couldn't do it.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Jill (Dorothy), of 66 years; daughter, Cindy, Oklahoma City; son, Bruce and his wife, Gail, Mapleton, ND; two granddaughters, Cora, and husband, Matt Paulbeck, NY, NY; and Elsa Bollinger and boyfriend, Chris Hansen-Stock, Fargo, ND; special nephew, Stanley Naumann and wife, Dorothy, Linton, ND; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Parents Emil and Alvina Bollinger; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Donnie Naumann; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Bollinger; nephews, Steve Naumann, Glen Naumann, Robin Bollinger.
