Mardell Sievers

Mardell Ann Sievers, 90, of Bismarck, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2025.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home. Family will be receiving friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mardell was born on August 18, 1934, in Whitefish, Montana, to John and Clara Carpenter. She graduated from Whitefish High School in 1952 and continued her education in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she trained to become a medical transcriptionist.

On August 4, 1953, Mardell married the love of her life, Larry Sievers of Faulkton, South Dakota. Together they made their home in Watford City, North Dakota, where they raised their three children: Mike (Gail) Sievers, Jeff Sievers, and Leann Sievers. Mardell worked as a medical transcriptionist at McKenzie County Memorial Hospital, while Larry served as the hospital administrator. After retirement, they settled in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Mardell was an active member of every community she lived in. She served as a Cub Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, and participated in the hospital guild along with many other organizations. Family vacations were a highlight for her, and after Larry’s passing, she continued to travel and make memories with close friends.

Mardell enjoyed tending to her flower beds, playing bridge, crafting, knitting, and cooking. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends. In her later years, her beloved dog, Lilly, brought her endless joy.

Mardell will be remembered for her quick wit, generous heart, and her ever-present sweet tooth. She was always up for a piece of chocolate or a bowl of ice cream as long as you were having one with her.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Gail) Sievers, Jeff Sievers, and Leann Sievers; her grandchildren, Lindsey (Phil) Harris, Amy Sievers, Peter Sievers, Tyson (Jen Wong) Sievers, Dylan Sievers, Kyle Little, and Jesse Little; four great-grandchildren; and friend Debbie Stuber.

Mardell was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Carpenter; her husband, Larry Sievers; and her siblings, Don, Jim, Lyle, and Alta Carpenter.
