Margaret “Peggy” Wanner

d. April 23, 2024

Margaret “Peggy” Wanner, 80, Bismarck, died April 23, 2024, after a battle with cancer.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck.  Visitation will be on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a Rosary/Vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Peggy was born on April 3, 1944, in Dickinson, ND. She was the oldest child of 3 born to Oscar Roy and Eleanor (Wolf) Hawkins. She lived in New Jersey until age 11.  While in Dickinson she finished elementary and middle school and graduated high school from Central Campus High in 1962. She worked as a telephone operator in Dickinson.

She married Robert V. Wanner on Dec. 28 th , 1965, and they were married for 48 years. To this union 6 children were born. They lived in Dickinson until 1969 when they moved to Cottage Grove, MN. They moved back to Bismarck in 1976. Over the years she has been involved in community events and clubs that allowed her to show her craft skills. Peggy stayed home with her children until 1980, when her youngest child went to kindergarten. She first took a job at Ben Franklin cutting fabric. She then took a job with St. Vincent’s nursing home as a CNA and worked there for 25 years until she retired in 2006.

Peggy had a kind and giving heart, loved to chat with others and tell stories for hours, and was always up for an adventure. Her love of her family and dear ones was always evident. She never missed a chance to send a card for a birthday or life milestone to let you know she was thinking of you. She was always planning and looking forward to the next get together by making a list, baking cookies and bars, whipping up her special bean dip, shopping for presents (always looking for a bargain), and looking forward to playing cards (pinochle and cribbage). She was very involved with her children and grandchildren’s interests and being a spectator at their personal events and always made it a priority to see and support them.  She enjoyed watching all sporting events on TV especially rooting for the Vikings. We will forever cherish the tie blankets and numerous homemade embroidered dishtowels that she made for us.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children and grandchildren, Dan (Colien) Wanner (Denver, NC): Daniel (Anuja), Austin (Chicago, Ill), Rachel, and Will (Denver, NC), Pam (Tom) Nemeth: Lucas, (Bismarck, ND), Dawn (Ken) Wanner-Junkert (Bismarck, ND):  Chantel (San Diego, CA) , Abigail (Bismarck ,ND), Tricia (Keith) Granroth: Taylor (Shell Lake, WI), Kaci (New Richmond, WI), Debbie (Paul) Greeder: Matthew, Nicholas, Rebecca, (New Richmond, WI), Paula (Eric) Vetter: Brandon, Audrey,(Bismarck, ND), her sister and brother in-law Barb and Bill Gabbert, (Moorhead, MN), her sister and brother in-laws, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert V. Wanner, her parents Oscar Roy and Eleanor Hawkins, an infant brother, her father, and mother-in-law Philip J. and Frances Wanner, her sister and brother-in-law Sheri and Jim Schloss, brothers-in-law Denis Wanner and Wayne Barton and two nephews.

We are certain she is enjoying teatime in Heaven with her self-proclaimed cousin, Queen Elizabeth.
