Marlys M. Schneider, 81, of Bismarck, went home to her Heavenly Father on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, Dec. 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home, followed by a light lunch. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Her immediate family will honor her with a private burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Marlys was born on May 14, 1944, to Herman and Otillia (Ketterling) Boschee. She grew up in Wishek, attending Wishek Public High School, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
In 1966, Marlys married Alvin J. Schneider, who passed away in 1970. She later married Thomas A. Schneider in 1971, and they shared many years together until 2010. Throughout her life, Marlys was a caregiver, working as both a CNA and a dental assistant in North and South Dakota and Minnesota. She retired from St. Alexius in 2010 after working in pre and post-op same day surgery. In her younger years, she loved creating beautifully detailed wedding and birthday cakes—an early glimpse into her creative spirit.
After retirement, Marlys enjoyed giving her time as a volunteer at St. Alexius Hospital and in Medora, ND—one of her favorite places. Music was one of her greatest joys. She loved to sing, and her strong baritone voice found a home in many groups over the years, including church choirs, the Bismarck Community Choir, the Kaleidoscope Variety Show, the Bismarck Sweet Adelines, and the Twin Cities Sweet Adelines. If Marlys was nearby, chances are you’d hear her humming or singing a harmony—something she did with pride and a twinkle in her eye.
Marlys also had a special place in her heart for dogs. She became a dog sitter for many friends, and every pup knew that visiting Marlys meant love, attention, and a treat or two.
Marlys is survived by her daughters Dawn Schneider (Bismarck), Lauren (Rodney) Sorgaard (Amery, WI), and Lisa (Steven) Clinton (Chaska, MN); her son Perry Schneider (Mandan); 10 cherished grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister Beverly (Jerry) Fischer (Faulkton, SD); and her brother Milo Boschee (Lakewood, CO).
She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Herman and Otillia Boschee; her brothers Eugene, Emil, Verdine, and Roger; her sisters Verna (Kauk), Pearl (Meidinger), infant sister Delilah Boschee; and her first husband, Alvin Schneider.
Marlys will be remembered for her warm heart, her music, her generosity, and the love she shared so freely with family, friends, and four-legged companions.
