Mary Cichos

Mary Joanne Cichos, 83, a resident of Bismarck, ND, peacefully passed away October 23, 2024 at Missouri Slope Care Center surrounded by her family. 

Visitation service will be held Monday, October 28, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home with prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. 

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home in Bismarck, ND. Burial will be held at a later date.

Mary Joanne Cichos was born July 12, 1941 in Jamestown, ND to Roman and Dorothy (Thimmesch) Cichos. She was the third of five children. She spent most of her childhood in Jamestown, and took care of her mother when she became ill with Parkinsons. She was married to Nels Christensen for a short time. She then married Melvin Schulz and resided in Jamestown for a short time. Later they moved to Napoleon, ND where she was a housewife and wonderful mother of 6 children. She was a Boy Scout Den Leader in Napoleon. When the youngest child started school she started as a CNA at Napoleon Care Center. They moved to Bismarck, ND in 1983. At that time she started as a CNA at Missouri Slope. She worked at several different daycares and loved working with the kids. Later she worked at the Arc thift store, and then retired.  Mary enjoyed sewing and would sew the girl's twirling dresses and other outfits. She also liked to cook and bake for birthdays and holidays, and she especially liked to make the grandkids favorite, strudels. She was a very loving, caring, and well liked person.  She would always say "I love you" and give you a big hug. 

Mary is survived by her children: Duane (Sheryl) Schulz - Bismarck, Becky Lippert - Bismarck, Betty Schulz (Hobie Helton) - Bismarck, JoLynn (Frank) Brendel - Mandan, Tim Schulz - Bismarck, Jamie (Allison) Schulz - Mandan; grandchildren: Jennifer Lippert, Jonathan (Nicolyn) Schulz, Cody (Jackie) Schulz, Jessica (Ryan) Swanson, John (Chelsey) Lippert, Lori (Wendlin) Rohrich, Frankie (Kristina) Brendel, Diana Schulz, Timothy Schulz Jr., KayCee Schulz, Abigail Schulz, Peyton Schulz; step grandchildren: Jessica Helton, Adrianna Helton, James Helton, Brady Palmer, Jaelynn (Trae) Bennett, Brenden Palmer, Coltan Palmer; 20 great grandchildren; siblings: Jerry McCormick - Bismarck, Phyllis Nitschke - Fargo, Gary Lawrence - Wyoming; brother-in-law Mike Eggen - Ada, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents - Roman and Dorothy Cichos; ex husband - Melvin Schulz; grandchildren: Ryan Schulz, Christopher Schulz; sister - Gloria Eggen; and Mark Bitz (daughter Becky’s fiancé).
