Nancy (Fugleberg) Hallahan

d. December 28, 2023

Nancy (Fugleberg) Hallahan, 64, came into the world on October 17, 1959, and went home on December 28, 2023, surrounded by her family.  A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church in New Rockford, ND.

Nancy was born in Washington and moved to New Rockford, ND where she graduated from High School.  She attended North Dakota State University and MSU Northern studying Communication and English. During her college years, Nancy published several poems and papers.  She co-wrote and published, From Wheat Fields, a book of her father’s time in WWII.  While residing in Montana, Nancy worked as the Activity Director at the nursing home.  She had a heart for taking care of others.

Nancy was a lover of the outdoors.  No matter what state Nancy resided in, she found joy in nature. She shared this love with her children, Patrick and Lea, by teaching them how to fish, search for nightcrawlers, pick rocks, and camp.  Rain or shine, tenting on the weekends occupied most of the family’s summer months. If Nancy wasn’t climbing a mountain looking for pinecones, she was off picking wild berries and panning for gold. One thing is for sure, she was at the center of every adventure.

When Nancy wasn’t out in the mountains, she was at home tending to her flower gardens. She especially loved her rose bushes but if it could bloom, it was in her garden.   Nancy also had a love of singing and playing instruments.  Her children grew up with Nancy singing classic country music and playing the guitar.

An avid baker, you could find Nancy in the kitchen or cooking over an open fire.  She would make platters and meals of food for others to gather.  She knew food brought people together.

Of all the loves Nancy had, her family was the most important. She moved back to North Dakota from Texas in June of 2022 to spend more time with her family.  She treasured attending her grandchildren’s celebrations and sporting events and often shared how proud she was of them.   Nancy was a servant of God and she read the scripture daily.   Because of her faith, we know she was welcomed into Heaven with open arms and eternal life.

Nancy is survived by her beloved children, Pat (Lindsey) Schmid, and Lea (Lance) Quam; grandchildren, Dante Schmid, Marius Lawrence, Quinn Onebear, Diezel Schmid, Raven Schmid, Slaid Schmid, Paisely Schmid, Hailey Quam, Carson Quam, and Annistyn Quam; her sisters, Shirley DeCarufel, Valene Wilson, Tanya Pless; and her brothers, Tommy Hallahan and Randy (Connie) Fugleberg.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Florence Fugleberg; her biological mother, Donna Jordan; her sisters, Robin and Susan Hallahan; and her granddaughter baby Schmid.
