Norman R. Winkler, 90, of Menoken, passed away on July 7, 2026 in a Bismarck Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10 at 10:30AM at the Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Beulah, ND at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.
Norman was born on January 13, 1936 to John and Pauline (Miller) Winkler in Beulah, ND. He was raised south of Beulah and educated in a country school through the 8th grade.
He married Martha Welk at Peace Lutheran Church on April 15, 1956.
Norman did ranch work for various ranchers until he bought the ranch in Menoken in 1990. He continued working on the ranch until well into his 80’s. He loved the cattle and especially his horses. He was an avid fan of baseball especially the Minnesota Twins. In the earlier years he participated in rodeos and calf roping was his event! He attended many rodeos around the state and served as the president of the Wing Rodeo for many years. If you look in the dictionary, his picture is under the word “cowboy.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Martha of Menoken; daughters, Brenda (Kevin) Wiedrich of Beulah, Sandy (Ken) Schon of Menoken; one son, Todd (LaDawn) Winkler of Menoken; 8 grandchildren, Jesse (Sara) Wiedrich, Garth (Karlie) Wiedrich, Casey (Amy) Schon, Cody (Beth) Schon, Trista ( Zach) Schon, Austin (Kara) Winkler, Kendal (Gary) Price, Logan (Jess) Winkler; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Arnie (Sharon) Winkler, LeRoy (Sharon) Winkler, Howard (Pede) Winkler and many nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ross; one brother, Wilfred; mother and father-in-law, Emil and Katie Welk; brother-in-law, Richard (Tobea) Welk and sister-in-law, Ruth (Hank) Pochant.
