Phyllis Harriet Schneider, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Good Samaritan Nursing Home on December 7, 2025, in Mandan, ND.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00AM at the Bismarck Funeral Home.
Phyllis was born April 10, 1942, on the family farm near York, ND. She was the seventh of twelve children to Harry and Pearl (Smith) Berg. She graduated from Leeds High School in 1960. She attended the Fargo New York Hair Design Academy in Fargo, ND and graduated in 1961.
She accepted her one and only job as a beautician in Dunseith, ND at Marie’s Beauty Shop. While living in Dunseith, she met the love of her life and married Larry Schneider on February 24, 1963, at the York Lutheran Church in York, ND. Later that year, they moved to Bismarck, ND, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Phyllis was blessed with three children. She was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child went to school. Then she worked at the grade school as a lunch lady for a few years. After that she put her hobby of sewing into a permanent career as a “crotchmotologist” for various clothing stores before finally retiring in 2006.
Phyllis always liked to be active; this included playing softball, volleyball, and walking – either outside or at the mall. She loved reading, watching professional basketball, traveling, and planting flowers around her home. She had a love for teapots, which led to her stopping at a rummage sale whenever she could.
Family and friends were very important to Phyllis, and they knew it. She was a very loving, sociable, and giving person; she got along with everyone. She would strike up a conversation with anyone. Phyllis was proud of her grandchildren, Zachary, Jordan, Bryan, Kori, and Aiden, and great-grandchildren, Tyson, Hazel, and Theo.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Lori (Scott) Westbrook; sons, Jeffrey (Vicky) Schneider and Mark Schneider; sister, Karen (Jerry) Skjonsby; and brothers, Wayne Berg and Ralph (Linda) Berg.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Harry and Pearl; brothers, Lawrence, Palmer, Sanford, Orville, and Dean Berg; sisters, Irene Beauchant, Anna Ramsfield, and Esther Sorlein.
