Robert "Collin" Scull

1973 — October 2, 2025

Robert "Collin" Scull, 52, passed away in Bismarck, ND on the morning of October 2nd, 2025 with the support of end-of-life comfort care at Sanford Health, following complications from his degenerative conditions. A celebration of life and ash scattering will be held at a later date.

Collin spent his childhood alternating between his hometown of Boulder, CO, and Traverse City, MI. Lake Michigan, which is a few blocks away from where he lived in Traverse City, was where he discovered and practiced his love of sailing, alongside his parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, who were also avid sailors. Since this was not an accessible hobby in Boulder, he had another set of hobbies there. His brother recalls his thrill seeking antics, and fondly remembers when they would go hang gliding in the Colorado foothills. He moved from Colorado to Hebron, ND in 2003.

He retained these hobbies from his youth, while developing a lifelong interest in aviation in addition. He also developed a fondness for elephants during his time working with them in the circus. He was often trying new hobbies, and kept up an endless pursuit of knowledge throughout his life.

Collin found fulfillment through his work as a software developer. He was employed at Grizella, which was later acquired by Internet Truckstop, for over 20 years until his retirement at age 50. There, his work shaped software that became core tools for thousands of companies, and influencing contemporary logistics for freight transportation in North America. Even after his retirement, he maintained a keen interest in technology, and was ever optimistic about its future role in benefiting humanity. Collin also was actively involved in the Bisman Linux Users Group, ensuring he was up to date on the forefront of knowledge in his chosen field, and could share ideas with fellow enthusiasts.

Collin also found purpose engaging in his community of Hebron, ND. He served as a member of the Hebron Business Club for 2 decades, and was elected as it's president 2011-2014, and again in 2017-2023. During his tenure, Collin was particularly passionate about organizing community blood drives for Hebron, which a friend of his describes as "reflecting his commitment to service and his care for others."

Collin loved his friends and family until the end. He habitually maintained positive opinions of others, assuming the best of them whenever possible, and he was willing to help those close to him whenever he could, even when it would inconvenience him. Collin relocated to Boulder twice during each of his parents' time on hospice, so he would be able to help each one stay at home as long as possible, and bring them preferred food daily after they each decided on a 24/7 care facility. He made sure to call both his close and extended family frequently, even while struggling with illness and life circumstances himself. His caring nature will be remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Collin is survived by his daughter Vivian (Anders) Scull-Peterson, his 2 grandchildren, his brothers Jon Coverdale and Wyatt "James" (Amber) Scull, his niece, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jon and Sandy Scull.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration made in honor of Collin.
