Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery in Mandan with a luncheon following back at the church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29 from 4 to 6 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Robert (Bob) Scholl was born on January 1, 1953, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Casper and Ann Scholl, the second of five boys. He spent his childhood on his parents’ farm not far from Raleigh and Flasher, North Dakota, where he learned the value of hard work while performing various farm-related tasks. A small-town boy, Bob developed a love for sports at an early age including basketball and football, his lifelong love beginning with playing linebacker for the Flasher Bulldogs high school team where he graduated in 1972 and then enrolled in lineman school at Bismarck Junior College (now Bismarck State).

That same year, Bob met Kim Goetz of Carson, North Dakota, through mutual friends. They were married on February 16, 1974, and settled in Bismarck. A year later, the couple moved to Steele, ND, where Bob found employment with KEM Electric. A few years later, the couple moved to Mandan where Bob joined Mor-Gran-Sou Electric, where he worked as a journeyman lineman and, later, as a foreman. They settled in Mandan where they raised two sons Jessy and Jerry, which Bob loved and cherished very much.

The move was done so his father-in-law, Ruben Goetz, could make his dialysis appointments easier, as their house had a furnished basement for Kim’s parents. It was just the start, as Bob spent much of his adult life helping others with various needs. This included a shingle replacement project for his parents, helping his fellow co-workers at Mor-Gran-Sou, and helping his wife in the late stages of her life. Bob worked for KEM Electric and Mor-Gran-Sou from 1975 through the end of 2014 when he retired.

Bob helped maintain the home by doing various outdoor chores. They included lawn mowing, gardening, and blowing snow in the winter. He was also involved in woodworking and heavy construction, with the latter serving as the general contractor for two different houses he had built for his family. He helped Kim with her woodwork crafting by cutting the wood and she would decorate it.

Bob’s hobbies included leathercrafting, hunting, and traveling, which grew through his wife and her side of the family. Trips included the Black Hills of South Dakota and Glacier National Park. In their later years, Bob and Kim couldn’t wait for a motorcycle ride or a trip to Prairie Knights Casino. He also enjoyed fishing and camping trips with his two boys, Jessy and Jerry. But the most memorable moment came when Bob, with help from his sons, surprised Kim with a visit to Lucille Ball’s grave in Jamestown, New York, while on a trip to see the Twins play in several cities such as Chicago and Cleveland.

Bob loved playing card and board games. They included Pinochle, Skip-Bo, Whist, and games for kids such as Hi-Ho! Cherry-O and Old Maid.

Though he couldn’t play football past high school, Bob loved watching it. He grew into a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, though he also loved the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. He loved various NFL players such as Vikings Jared Allen, Chad Greenway, and Randy Moss. And he loved quarterbacks such as John Elway and Brett Favre.

When football wasn’t on the air, Bob loved watching baseball as a fan of the Minnesota Twins. He also watched other various shows including comedies like Leave It to Beaver, Green Acres, Home Improvement, and Young Sheldon and Lifetime and Hallmark movies. But he had a soft heart for drama shows like, Baywatch, Mannix, Law and Order: SVU, and Tracker, and westerns like Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and Yellowstone.

Bob fueled his wife’s love for Christmas by helping her decorate, which usually took place after Thanksgiving most years. This included putting up and decorating the tree. He then would help Kim, and later, Jessy and Jerry, by baking various treats for the holiday. Bob was a spiritual man who almost never missed Mass on Sundays. When he was not at church, Bob was usually found reading from various devotionals and Bible passages daily.

Bob will be deeply missed by his sons Jessy Scholl and Jerry Scholl; his firstborn brother Patrick and younger brothers Randy (Eileen), Dan (Patty), and Ken (Christie); and his in-laws Jim Well (Brenda Goetz), and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Kim; his parents Casper and Ann Scholl; Kim’s parents Ruben and Tillie Goetz; and various aunts and uncles.
