Rodney W. Gwyther, 82, of Bismarck, passed away June 16, 2024 at Sanford Health. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Spirit of Life Catholic Church with Rev. Keith Streifel officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Rodney was born on May 2 nd ,1942 to Benjamin and Alice (Heiser) Gwyther.
He grew up and lived on the family farm just south of Fort Rice ND. Rodney attended grade school in Fort Rice and graduated from Mandan High School. He then joined the United States Air Force.
On December 1st, 1962 he married Rita M Andrews. They had 5 children and were married for over 60 years.
Rodney was a super trucker at heart, whether cattle, water, or heavy construction equipment, he hauled it all. He was a good salesman, he owned/ operated Surge water for many years. In his later years he enjoyed driving for Uber and Lift.
He loved dogs and training them, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and going to Krolls and the Little Cottage for breakfast. He was always ready to listen and help.
He will be deeply missed by his 5 children Julie Schoonover, Robert (Janet) Gwyther, Connie Eberle, James Gwyther, and Kristen Lynn Nelson (Gwyther), 15 grandchildren Derek (Natisha) Ben (Ashley ) Cory (Kristi), Jordan Joshua (Laycee) Waylon, Kayla (Tony) Austin (Hannah) Issac Lynsey, James Brandon, Devinee Sam and Harley,18 great grandchildren Lilli, Dallas, Kenadee, Witten, Wyatt, Morgan, Phoenix, Cambria, Geri, Taner, Malakai, Dominick, Quistis, Mazikeen, Leeloo, Emmerson, Irie, Josie, brother-in-law, Richard Martinson, nieces and nephews, Mary Jo, Randy, Shelly, Richard, and Patty.
He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Alice (Heiser) Gwyther, wife Rita, brother Ruel (Merv) Gwyther, sister- in -law Peggy Gwyther, sister Patricia (Pat) Martinson and his cat Sara.
