Scott Schneider, 60, passed away January 16, 2026 at his home in Bismarck.
Scott was born to James and Susan Schneider on October 6, 1965 in Bismarck. He was raised in Mandan and graduated from Mandan High School in 1984. While in high school, Scott was employed at the Mandan Dairy Queen. He would be sure to let everyone know that he was part of the original crew that opened it. After graduation, Scott joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for eleven years. During this time he served aboard the USS William H. Standley (CG-32) and USS Okinawa (LPH-3). He was also stationed at NAS Miramar Top Gun Flight School as a naval police officer. While serving aboard the USS Okinawa, Scott was deployed in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, as a fire controlman in charge of the weapons system onboard the ship.
While stationed in San Diego Scott met his future wife, Tabitha Walsh. To this union two beautiful children were born, Jacob Scott in 1992 and Katie Rose in 1996.
After leaving the Navy, Scott and his family returned to Bismarck in 1995. Scott worked a variety of different jobs, including as a cable installer with Dell Comm. During his work there, he seemingly wired every building in the Bismarck area. Other jobs included Super Valu Warehouse and Speedee Delivery.
Scott’s love for his country and patriotism were unmatched. He was a proud veteran and was honored to have been able to serve. He often told us that people would honk and wave as they drove by him due to his veterans plates, but we knew it was probably due to his driving and they weren’t waving.
Scott’s heart was big and sometimes led him in the wrong direction. He loved everyone and was a generous and giving person. If he saw something he thought we would like he gifted it to us. He lived life on his own terms and from the beginning he marched to the beat of a different drum. He made friends everywhere he went and was happy for everyone’s success.
Scott loved and was proud of what Jacob and Katie have accomplished in their lives. In September 2025, Scott became a grandpa to a beautiful granddaughter.
He will be missed and forever loved.
He is survived by his parents, James and Susan of Bismarck; children, Jacob of Kuemmersbruck, Germany and Katie Rose of LaPlata, MD; granddaughter, Teagan Rose; brother, Marc of Bismarck; sister, Rebecca (Kerry) Oberlander of Bismarck; nieces, Hanah (Cody) Hagen of Williston, Gracie Schneider of Rochester, NH; great-niece, Renly Hagen of Williston and former wife, Tabitha Schneider of Mechanicsville, MD.
Scott was preceded in death by grandparents, Felix and Elizabeth Schneider, Carl and Elsie Metzger; uncles, Robert and Thomas Schneider, Paul and Donald Metzger; aunts, Rosemary Ziegler, Elizabeth Stepp and Ruth Hart.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 1:00PM at the Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
