Shirley Dutt

Shriley (Kuntz) Dutt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Missouri Slope Nursing Home in Bismarck, ND, surrounded by family which included the incredible care givers from both CaringEdge Hospice and Missouri Slope.

Shirley met and married the love of her life, Burl Dutt, in June of 1962. Fondly known by their friends as “Barbie and Ken,” they built a beautiful life together and raised their two daughters in the home they lovingly created in Bismarck. Shirley took immense pride in her home, which was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the welcoming spirit she so naturally shared. She found great joy in entertaining family and friends, and no one ever left her table hungry. With an impeccable green thumb, she nurtured both vibrant flower gardens and bountiful vegetable beds, always eager to share the harvest with anyone who loved fresh produce as much as she did. She was especially known for her apple and rhubarb pies, made with care and always served with love.

While Shirley devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother during her children’s school years, she never slowed down. With an abundance of love in her heart, she cared for the children of friends, many of whom remained lifelong companions. Her generous spirit also led her to volunteer regularly with Bismarck Parks and Recreation, where she found joy in supporting community events and bringing people together.

In retirement, Shirley and Burl embraced the chance to travel and make new memories. They especially loved going on cruises with friends and often returned to favorite destinations like Washington, D.C., and Las Vegas, Nevada—places that held special meaning and many happy moments for them.

Preceded in death by her husband Burl Dutt, Shirley is survived by her daughters Lori Riemer and Lisa (John) Warrfeli; her only remaining sibling, Clifford Kuntz; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place in August 2026 in Bismarck, where family and friends will gather to honor the love, kindness, and joy she shared so freely.
