Steven James Andrews

  • Steven James Andrews “Simba”, age 60, a consummate craftsman and devoted outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Bismarck, North Dakota.

  • A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Bismarck Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Herberg officiating. Family will be receiving guests one hour prior to the service.

  • On September 8, 1965 he was born to James and Connie (Hoover) Andrews in Bismarck. He was raised in Bismarck, North Dakota, Steven found his earliest joys amidst the vast expanses of the outdoors. From a young age, he embraced the land by assisting his family in planting trees and nurturing their homestead, cultivating both a deep connection to nature and a sense of purpose that would guide him throughout his life. He graduated from Bismarck High School, where his formative years further developed the values of hard work and community.

Steve’s professional journey was characterized by versatility, but it was through his self-employed carpentry that he truly expressed his passion and artistry. Specializing in custom stairs, handrails, and other creative woodwork, Steve’s craftsmanship left a lasting impression, blending functionality with artistic elegance. His hands shaped not only wood but also welded together a life full of dedication and love.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Steven found respite and exhilaration in hunting, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and 4-wheeling. He enjoyed canoe trips through the Boundary Waters in Minnesota and mushroom forays with his Uncle Harry. His devotion to restoring his 1964 Ford “Big Red,” uniquely equipped with a Chevy engine, reflected his blend of tradition and individuality; a source of pride and joy where he not only worked skillfully but also participated in Monster Truck Racing. Steve was equally passionate about the NFL Dallas Cowboys, a team he followed with enthusiasm and loyalty.

Beyond his hobbies, Steve's heart belonged to his family. He lovingly cared for his mother, Constance Hoover-Andrews, following the passing of his father, James Lester Andrews, a role he embraced with profound devotion. His enjoyment of exploring his family’s tree grove near Moffit connected him to his heritage, a connection further deepened by his interest in history and genealogy. Often, during long trips to Texas, he shared his wisdom and love of navigation with his daughter, teaching her the art of map reading and charting routes, a tradition he cherished.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Jessica Schiefelbein; his granddaughter, Ava Butler; his sisters, Etta Kirschman and Julie (Gerard) Feist, along with his nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Tim) Jablonski and their children Lilianna (Lucas) and Andrew Jablonski; Kali Kirschman; Corry and Richard Feist; Jeremy (Andrea) Andrews and their sons Eric and Conner Andrews; and Clarence Pfifer and family. Steve also treasured honorary friendships with Holly Brockman and family, Chuck Varland and family, and Danni Feist and family; along with many others, who all held a special place in his heart.

Steve’s loyal companionship extended to his beloved pets, JD, Symba, Hogan, George, Rosie, Chopper, and Ghost, who shared in the warmth of his home and life journey.

Steve leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, devotion, and a profound connection to the land and those he loved. His memory endures in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. Through his artistry, his stories, and his care for those around him, Steve’s spirit will continue to inspire and resonate for generations to come.
