Steven Olsen

Steve Olsen, 78, of Wheat Ridge CO passed away June 30, 2026 at home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Steven Blaine Olsen was born to Orville and Arlene Egge Olsen October 16, 1947 in Williston, ND where he was raised, educated and worked in construction with the family business. He furthered his craft attending College of Science in Wahpeton, ND and UND in Grand Forks. 

Steve volunteered for military armed forces in the U.S. Navy's Skilled Builders Construction Battalion 133, Seabees, during the Vietnam War. He received National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Device and Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm honoring valor and combat heroism. After returning to Williston, Great West Construction was formed. 

He married Lynda Valerius and to this union Kilee Marie was born. They later went their separate ways and divorced. Steve relocated to Colorado where he continued in the construction business building sunroom additions and remodeling homes. 

Sports were an active part of Steve's life. He played baseball during his younger days and was on the State Championship Babe Ruth All-Star team. Later he participated in basketball and softball as a player, coach and sponsor. He joined teams until his mid-seventies. The North Dakota outdoors called him to summer fishing and fall hunting excursions with his friends. Gardening was one of Steve's joys. He turned his yard into rows of produce. He was grilling until his last day.

 Steven is survived by his daughter, Kilee; grandsons, Drew and family, Noah; and granddaughter, Aubee; brother, David (Nancy); nephews, Levi and Skye and families; sister, Maureen (David) Orthmeyer; and nieces, Jessica and Halley and families. Steve is preceded in passing by his parents and sister Cheryl Olsen Rogstad.
