Thomas “Tom” Henn, 85, of Bismarck, passed away on July 29, 2025 in a Bismarck Care Center. A gathering will be held on Monday, August 4 from 4-6 PM with a prayer service at 4:00 PM at the Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Tom was born January 17, 1940 to Raymond and Mary (Wagner) Henn in Linton, ND. He was a huge prankster as a child. Tom was gifted a bow and arrow set that he decided to use to shoot at the neighbor’s chickens. Surprisingly, he hit one and killed it. One of many choices that may have landed him in a bit of trouble with his parents. He loved to go to the park and swim. By 7th grade, Tom was 6 feet tall, and his parents had to carry his birth certificate around to prove his age. He graduated from Linton High School in 1958 and entered the United States Army in February 1959. He served his country and was honorably discharged from the Army in February 1961. He served in the Army Reserve for many years where he retired as a Master Sergeant.
He was united in marriage to Judith A. Bertsch from Ashley, ND on February 13, 1965. Together they raised 3 daughters in Bismarck.
Tom attended and graduated from the University of Mary with an accounting and business degree and worked for the North Dakota Highway Department, State Auditors Office and the Department of Human Servies.
He loved sports! Tom was a starter for his high school football team and played tight end. They never lost a game all four years of his high school career! He also enjoyed basketball, wrestling, boxing, track, reading and being in the sun. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge in Bismarck.
Tom will be deeply missed by his wife, Judith; daughters, Terri (Shawn) Walters, Lisa (Ron) Green, Laura (Cory) Mowder; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Henn and 1 sister, Beverly O’Brien.
