Tillie Johs

Tillie Johs (Vetter), 92, of Bismarck, passed away on May 11, 2025 at St. Vincent’s Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday May 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Ascension in Bismarck. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 -8 p.m. on Thursday with a Vigil/Rosary at 7 at the Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Tillie was born on Aug. 4, 1932 in Linton, ND to John and Margaret (Bosch) Vetter. She attended rural schools in Emmons County, southeast of Linton.

On Oct. 11, 1955, she married Joseph Johs of Hague, ND in Linton. During the first five years of marriage, they traveled due to Joe’s construction work. Together they settled in Bismarck in 1960. They enjoyed the time they spent at their lake cabin at Douglas Bay, Lake Sakakawea and dancing polkas and waltzes on Friday and Saturday nights. Tillie very much enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Tillie worked most of her adult life at various jobs outside of the home before retiring from the Bismarck School system in 1994.

She is survived by her children Judy (Gene) Krebs, Richmond, MN, Timothy Johs, Bismarck, Dale Johs, Grand Forks, Cleary (Sandy) Johs, Bismarck and Blase (Silvia) Johs, Schertz, TX, nine grandchildren, Jesse (Jenn) Krebs, Inver Grove Heights, MN Joshua (Kayla) Krebs, Stillwater, MN, Jamie (Justin) Gabrielson, Richmond, MN, Dawn Johs and Larry Johs, Fargo, MaKayla Vaughan, Bismarck, Amy (Brandon) Sansaver, East Grand Forks, MN, Adam (Ashwini) Johs, Philadelphia, PA and Francesca Johs, San Antonio, TX, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, one sister, Benadina Wald, Bismarck, two sisters-in-law, Levina Vetter, Bismarck and Irene Rohrich, Bismarck, one brother-in-law Leo (Sandy) Johs, Shakopee, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, parents, John and Margaret Vetter, sisters, Barbara (Blase) Mathern, Mary (Joe) Bosch, brothers John (Helen) Vetter, Valentine (Isabella) Vetter and George Vetter.
