A celebration of life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM. Family will be receiving guests one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Petri Cemetery rural Nome, ND at a later date.
She was born on April 20, 1929, at the family farm south of Eastedge, ND, the eighth of ten children blessed to Adolph and Tena (Rodlin) Storhoff. Val attended school through 10th grade at Eastedge School, then attended and graduated from Enderlin High School in Enderlin, ND.
After high school, Val attended college in Valley City and then taught in a one-room school for one year.
On May 30, 1948, Val married Orvin (Bud) Hoff. This union was blessed with three children, Sharon, Ken and Stan.
Because of her husband’s work several moves across the state of ND and into Montana were necessary. The family landed in Bismarck in 1981. Val was a homemaker for 35 years and then worked 15 years for Spring Crest Custom Drapery. Wherever she lived, she was always active in church activities teaching Sunday school, summer bible school and the Bethel Bible series. She has been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for 35 years.
Val enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening, and singing with the Senior Center Singers in Bismarck. She loved playing bridge, pinochle and rummy card games with Stan.
Val leaves behind a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Haiskanen of Grand Rapids, MN; son, Stanley Hoff of Bismarck; daughter-in-law, Margo Spurrier of Casper, WY; four grandsons and three granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Storhoff of Valley City as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Val in death was her parents; husband, Bud; son, Kenneth; son-in-law, Tom Sommerness, 6 brothers, 3 sisters, 3 brothers-in-law, 4 sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Edgewood on Dominion and CaringEdge Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.
