Verlla was born August 28, 1939, to Ben and Luella (Huber) Krein in rural Burleigh County. They farmed in Sheridan and Burleigh counties before moving to Goodrich in 1945. They moved to Bismarck in 1950. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1957. After high school, she attended Bismarck Junior College. She wanted to become a teacher, but her father saw she had a talent for numbers and accounting. She met her husband Tom on a blind date and they married in 1960.
Her life centered around friends, faith, and most importantly family. Her friends were found in Sterling, Bismarck, Wing, at the Senior Centers, at the Red Hat Club, and everywhere else she would go. She had strong faith and convictions, including helping people when they needed. Lending her talents for numbers to those clubs and various individuals. While Tom was the muscle on the farm (along with the 3 boys), Verlla was behind the scenes making sure that all bills were paid and mouths were fed. This was no easy task in the hard times of farming. Her family and her three boys were the number one priority in her life. She wanted to see her boys and their families happy & connected.
She will be greatly missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike (Peggy) and Tim (Eileen), both of Sterling, Brian, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Missy of Arkansas, Rick (Brandy) and Brett (Mary), both of Bismarck, Buddy, Harley and Caleigh, all of Menoken; one grandchild-in-law, Jamie of Dawson; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Grenz, Phoenix; two sisters-in-law, Jayne (Danny) Zahn, Mandan, and Anita Geloff, Manti, Utah; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom Geloff, her in-laws; granddaughter, Crissy Lang; sisters-in-law, Pat Geloff, Dorothy Keyes, Helen Whitmore; brothers-in-law, Tim Whitmore, Norman Geloff, Bill Keyes, Peter Geloff, John Geloff, and Richard Grenz; several nieces and nephews; and special great nephew, Jeremy Whitmore.
