Vivian V Hauff, 99, Bismarck, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 11 at Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Beulah City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Vivian was born on the family farm on April 10, 1927, to John and Gladys (Erickson) Scheidt. She was the oldest of five children.
On September 6, 1946, she married Herman Hauff, a farmer and rancher from Golden Valley. Shortly after they were married Herman and Vivian bought a very small pull type camper, packed the car and camper and headed to southern California for the winter and enjoyed an extended 4-month honeymoon. In the spring they returned to Golden Valley where Vivian taught rural school and Herman was back farming. In 1950 they moved to Beulah and purchased Gambles Hardware store. Together they operated the store for 30 years while Herman continued farming.
After retiring from farming and the store they enjoyed the warm winters in Florida, Texas and Arizona.
Vivian loved to spend time with her plants. She always had a large garden but her real pride was in the flowers that she nurtured and took care of. She also enjoyed sewing; over the years she sewed many of the outfits and clothes she and her children wore. In her retirement years she sewed quilts for her grandchildren. Vivian also took great pride in the many blue ribbons she won at the Mercer County Fair for her garden produce and the clothes she sewed.
Vivian is survived by her children, Joanne Haugland, Jerry (Denise) Hauff, Mary Ann (Randall) Prigge, Janice (Mike) Merkel; grandchildren, Tami (Caleb) Glass, Kari (Aaron) Edland, Logan (Hannah Mae) Hauff, Keenan (Hannah Rae) Hauff, Caleb (Ashton) Hauff, Amber (Joe) Brown, Kayla (Chris) Delohery; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sisters, Willa Jean Weaver and Carol Kirchmeier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Scheidt; husband, Herman; brother, Herbert Scheidt; sister, Darlene Schuh and son-in-law, Greg Haugland.
Memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse.
